Golfing in the Costa de la Luz
The Costa de la Luz region lies across the border in Spain, but since it is only a short drive from Faro airport, we include Costa de la Luz golf holidays in our Algarve programme. Indeed thanks to the Via do Infante motorway it is quicker to drive from Faro to Isla Canela than to some of the Algarve resorts.
This region, known as 'the Andalucian Algarve', is renowned for its historical connection with Christopher Columbus, for its sunny beaches and for its fruit growing - mainly strawberries, oranges, melons, figs and mangoes.

Our holiday programme here features the excellent resorts and golf courses of Isla Canela and Islantilla in Spain, as well as the courses of Benamor, Castro Marim, Quinta da Ria and Quinta da Cima, just across the border in the Algarve.
Both resorts are quiet and relaxing with most of the nightlife taking place in the hotels, although the nearby town of Ayamonte has a number of bars and fine restaurants.

The spectacular 27-hole Islantilla course completed in 1992 is a parkland-type layout close to the sea.
In the years since, Islantilla has hosted several professional tournaments including the Turespana Andalucian Open.
With three 9-hole loops available, golfers at Islantilla can choose from 3 different 18 hole combinations to include their favourite holes or to suit their individual level of skill.
Isla Canela Golf Course The 6,288-metre, 18-hole course was completed in late 1996. It is a par-72 layout winding through gently undulating, dune type terrain where olive, orange, eucalyptus and palm trees are regular features. Water hazards come into play on 12 holes, although not in a particularly daunting way from the regular tees. Isla Canela Golf Course The 6,288-metre, 18-hole course was completed in late 1996. El Rompido North Golf Course The North Course makes use of the complex’s more elevated grounds. It is considered by the Peugeot guide to be “one of the top 1000 courses in all of Europe” and one of the most outstanding courses for 36-Hole Golf in Spain. Since it was opened to the public in June 2006, it has received high praise for being a monument to modern golf, intelligent and entertaining. Modern because it combines power with precision; intelligent because it makes you think about your strokes; and entertaining because its medium-sized greens will entertain both the most skilled player and those with the highest handicaps. El Rompido South Golf Course The south course runs alongside the clubhouse and is divided into two courses with very different characteristics, both in terms of technique and the landscape. The pine forest alternates with olive trees and wetlands, requiring golfers to use strategy and precision in their strokes. The course, which can be played easily on foot, offers spacious greens known to be among the fastest in Andalusia. The combination of tropical grass and winter grass gives the fairways a comfortable, pleasant feel. Isla Canela Golf Course The 6,288-metre, 18-hole course was completed in late 1996.
